Library Access for Staff

UBC Vancouver Staff

  • Staff must have an active appointment with UBC Human Resources.
  • A valid CWL (Campus Wide Login) associated with your appointment is required to access library eResources.
  • A valid UBCcard (physical or digital version) is required to borrow books and access many library services.
  • Apply for your UBCcard through the UBC Carding Office.

UBC Okanagan Staff

UBC Appointed Hospital Staff

  • Eligible staff hold active appointments with UBC Human Resources.
  • Library privileges are equivalent to those for UBC staff.
  • Apply for your UBCcard through the UBC Carding Office.

Non-UBC Appointed Hospital Staff

  • Eligible Non-UBC appointed Hospital Staff work at one of the following UBC affiliated teaching hospitals:
    • BC Children’s Hospital and BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre
    • St. Paul’s Hospital
    • Vancouver General Hospital
    • UBC Hospital
  • Eligible Non-UBC appointed Hospital Staff can:
    • Borrow books from the UBC Library collection.
    • Request articles in the UBC Library collection via Document Delivery.
      Note: Articles that cannot be supplied because of licensing agreements with publishers can be accessed by visiting a UBC Library branch.
    • Request articles not available in the UBC Library collection via Interlibrary Loan.
    • Access most library eResources by visiting a UBC Library branch.
    • Submit an email to library.accounts@ubc.ca requesting your library privileges and the account details or renewal confirmation will then be sent by email.

Retired Staff

  • Retired staff must have their retirement reflected on UBC’s HR system in order to apply for a for a Retired Staff UBCCard. Retired staff will have access to most library services (including borrowing books, placing Interlibrary Loan requests). Retired staff will not have remote access to Library licensed eResources.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • UBC staff planning to use libraries at other universities may be eligible to access the institution’s library resources through reciprocal borrowing arrangements.
  • Staff who have forgotten their UBCcard can access their digital version through the UBC Carding Office or apply for a temporary library card at any UBC library branch.
