Who Can Borrow from UBC?

  • Any library, company, or organization can request material from UBC Library.
  • Individuals who wish to borrow a book, government publication, thesis or dissertation must place an Interlibrary Loan request through their local library.

What Material Do We Lend?

Material Loan Policy
Books Will lend except for Reference, rare books, high demand or course reserve books
Loan period – 2 weeks. No renewals.
Periodicals Requests are filled with photocopies of articles. We will not lend most journals. May lend if article exceeds 50 pages, subject to our discretion.
Newspapers Will lend microfilm. Some exceptions.
Government Publications Will lend. Some exceptions.
Microforms Will lend microfilm, microprint,microcard.
Fiche copy service available.
Masters Theses Available in digital format –   https://open.library.ubc.ca/cIRcle/collections/ubctheses
Doctoral Dissertations Available in digital format –  https://open.library.ubc.ca/cIRcle/collections/ubctheses

UBC Library charges the following fees except for libraries belonging to the following consortial agreements:

Billing and Payment Information

  • Invoices are sent on a quarterly basis except for invoices with other add charges. These are sent with the item.In some cases, prepayment may be required.
  • The Library accepts OCLC IFM, cash, cheques, money orders, ETF, or credit cards (Visa or Mastercard) as payment.
  • International libraries can also use IFLA vouchers.
